Buyer Map: Epigenetix

Prepared for Joe Collard | Epigenetix | October 2026

As of Oct 6, 2026

Epigenetix develops an oral epigenetic cancer drug now in early clinical trials, with myelofibrosis as the lead indication and solid tumors behind it. At this stage the four groups on this page play different parts. Hospitals and cancer centers are where trials run, and later where a drug is prescribed. Partner companies are the licensing and co-development counterparts. Specialty pharmacies and payers become buyers once a drug is approved. Each group is sized from public counts and lists the roles that usually sign off. It says nothing about which of them Epigenetix already works with.

Trials running now

Studies and sites in the federal trial registry, read on Oct 6, 2026.

Open means recruiting, not yet recruiting, enrolling by invitation or active and no longer recruiting. Sites are counted once by name and state, so one center listed under two spellings counts twice and the site row is an upper bound. Hospitals, cancer centers and private practices all appear as sites.

Hospitals and health systems

US hospital locations by the number of people working there, mid-March 2023.

Industry codes are our closest match to each group. One health system with ten hospitals counts ten times. Hospitals run by a government are outside this count. Cancer centers sit inside these rows, and no public code separates them, so the trial site count above is the sharper measure of where myelofibrosis patients are treated.

Partner companies

US drug, biologic and biotech research locations by staff size, mid-March 2023.

One company with ten sites counts ten times. The biotechnology research row also holds contract research organizations and labs that run no drug program of their own.

Specialty pharmacies and payers

US locations by staff size, mid-March 2023. These groups matter once a drug is approved.

No public code separates specialty pharmacies from retail pharmacies, so the pharmacy row holds both and the specialty subset is built by name. The carrier row counts offices, so one insurer with many offices counts many times.

What no public count reaches

Three groups this page cannot size, said in words rather than shown as a number.

Specialty pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers and Medicaid managed care plans. Specialty pharmacies file beside retail drug stores, pharmacy benefit managers file under claims administration with many firms that are not pharmacy businesses, and Medicaid plans sit inside the carrier row above or inside a parent insurer. State Medicaid agencies are government bodies and appear in none of these counts. Each of these groups is built by name, organization by organization.

Who signs off

The roles that usually own each decision. Titles vary by organization, and at the smaller companies one person often holds several of them.

GroupRoles
Hospitals and cancer centers, as trial sitesDirector of the cancer center, head of the clinical trials office, chief of hematology and oncology, the principal investigator on each study
Hospitals and health systems, once a drug is approvedChief medical officer, director of pharmacy, chair of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee, head of precision medicine, chief strategy officer

Three openings

Where the counts point.

Cancer centers, the group your own site names first.

Your site names the cancer centers running your trials and says others are seeking to join. About 530 US sites are listed on an open myelofibrosis trial today, so the next centers can come from those already treating these patients in a study, with the approach going to the head of each clinical trials office.

Partner programs with companies already in myelofibrosis.

About 20 companies lead an open myelofibrosis trial with a US site, and about 260 posted a new cancer trial with a US site in the past year. Your site reports trial results in combination with a JAK inhibitor, so the companies working in the same disease are a short list, worked by name through their business development and alliance leads.

Smaller biotechs, where the founder signs.

About 1,200 biotechnology research locations have 10 to 49 staff. At that size the founder or CEO usually signs a co-development or combination study deal personally, so a note from one founder to another reaches the person who decides on the first touch.

Denominators, definitions and sources

  1. Trial counts come from the federal trial registry, read on Oct 6, 2026. The myelofibrosis rows count interventional studies that list myelofibrosis among their conditions under the registry's own condition search, are open, and name at least one US site. The cancer row counts distinct companies named as the industry lead sponsor of an interventional cancer study first posted between Oct 6, 2025 and Oct 6, 2026 with at least one US site. Company names are matched after removing legal suffixes, so a company listed under two spellings may count twice.
  2. Location counts are establishments in the federal annual count of business establishments by industry, 2023, national file, all legal forms. An establishment is one physical location with paid employees, and government-run establishments are outside the count. Staff is paid employees at the location in the mid-March 2023 pay period. Where the file withholds a size cell, the withheld locations are recovered as the group total less the published cells, and each falls in the 250+ column.
  3. Industry codes: 622110 general medical and surgical hospitals; 622310 specialty hospitals, except psychiatric and substance abuse; 325412 pharmaceutical preparation manufacturing; 325414 biological product manufacturing, except diagnostic; 541714 research and development in biotechnology, except nanobiotechnology; 446110 pharmacies and drug stores; 524114 direct health and medical insurance carriers.
  4. Built from public registries, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten.

The named version of this page, the actual companies inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Ben Beattie, ben@enquirerconsulting.com.
